Composite Development and Tooling Engineer: Aerospace

Summary of Your Responsibilities

Implement and manage all aspects of composite development and tooling projects: planning, design, technical analysis, some hands-on, scope and customer expectations. This position is full-time, long-term, and offers flexible scheduling, full benefits, and excellent work-life balance.

  • Learn Radius' technology, processes, and driving philosophy.
  • Design prototype and production tooling and equipment to support composite development projects. Apply company and industry best practices. Research and implement optimum processing parameters for composite part fabrication.
  • Effectively manage design and testing projects. Understand and implement mechanical aspects as well as thermal and fluid dynamics as applied to net-shape composite article fabrication.
  • Frequent hands-on involvement in prototyping, part fabrication, and process development. Process parameter definition, ply pattern development.
  • Develop expertise in innovative composites development including RTM & SQRTM manufacturing technologies, material forms and required processing conditions.
  • Provide well-written documentation.
  • Develop and document detailed composite manufacturing process instructions. Support continuous improvement of engineering guidelines and procedures.
  • Design/conduct experiments to resolve issues or identify opportunities to develop new/alternative processing solutions.
  • Comply with all AS9100 Aerospace quality standards.
Project Management
  • Effectively manage customer and vendor expectations, and project scope.
  • Track project budgets and provide profit/loss data and analysis.
  • Role model professional behavior for junior staff.
  • Develop detailed project quotes (deliverables, assumptions, budgets, schedules). Define statements of work. Minimize technical, financial, and scheduling risks.
  • While interacting with customers, be aware of their needs. Discuss potential services and products to support customer efforts with Radius managers or business development.
  • Participate in local, national, and international trade shows and conferences.
Requirements for Entry Level Candidates
  • Engineering degree. Preferably BSME or BS Materials. Advanced degree is a plus.
  • Interest in / passion for aerospace and/or tooling design, fabrication, and manufacturing.
  • Experience with CAD /analysis tools. SolidWorks highly preferred.
  • Interest in out-of-autoclave manufacturing processing including ply pattern definition, lay-up/tool assembly instructions, injection and cure parameter definition.
  • Attracted by small company environment where responsibilities are broad including engineering support, design, and analysis, plus an engineering focus on technical, hands-on work.
  • Effective, succinct communication. Team project collaboration skills.
  • US Citizenship or Green Card required due to customer requirements.
Additional Requirements for Experienced Candidates
  • Related work experience and expertise in engineering, project management, technical hands-on and/or marketing.
